Outdoor Activities

Manhattan, KS is the prime location for various outdoor activities; if you are one that enjoys the exploration of your surroundings, staying active, or even just enjoying the view, this is the place for you!

Tuttle Creek State Park offers a variety of activity options; the park has grounds available for hiking, biking, horseback riding, or even camping and fishing.  Tuttle Creek State Park also holds the annual Country Stampede every summer, bringing country artists right into your backyard.

Rocky Ford Fishing Area is another prime location in the Manhattan area to take the family for some great scenery and fishing.

Pillsbury Crossing is a popular location for people of all ages.  This limestone crossing allows for swimming, driving, or simple sight-seeing.  It also includes a gorgeous little waterfall at the edge of the ledge.  Check out Pillsbury Crossing on any warm summer day!

The Linear Park Trail is perfect for a gorgeous view on a nice hiking trail.  This trail wraps almost completely around Manhattan, showing off the gorgeous spots Manhattan has to offer.  If that long of a trail isn't your fancy, check out the Konza Prairie Hiking Trails that offer a great view of the prairie.

The Lazy T Ranch not only provides historical value/experiences, it also is a great place for friends and family to come experience the life on a farm.  They are open year round for reservations, so schedule a time to have some fun on the farm by calling (785) 539-7899.

The Manhattan area is home to a popular zoo, the Sunset Zoo, that is open daily and also offers classes and fun activities for kids of all ages.  Manhattan Parks and Recreation also provide locations for fun "kid" activities.  City Park offers a seasonal splash park, brand new pool, as well as an extensive playground for all ages.  Cico Park, located on the opposite side of Manhattan from City Park, also has a pool, playground, baseball fields and tennis courts, as well as fairgrounds.

For all of those golfers out there, Manhattan is host to three different golf courses; Colbert Hills golf course is home to the K-State golf teams, Stagg Hill golf course, and Wildcat Creek Golf & Fitness, that offers shooting ranges, batting cages, miniature golf, and a fitness center as well.

Seeing that Kansas State University originally began as a primarily agricultural college, it would only make sense that Manhattan host a Farmers' Market to support the local growers of the Manhattan community.  Check it out Saturday mornings from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM or Wednesday evenings from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM during May through October.
