Cost of Housing in Kansas vs.

Many clients and customers have asked the question, "Why is housing $50,000 more here than where I live?"

Here are some of the reasons:

1. Houses in Kansas have basements. The cost for concrete alone for a 1,500 square foot house with sidewalks and double driveway is $20,000.00 today with the flatwork another $12,000.00. Many of these houses with basements also have sump pumps and radon mitigation systems for additional expense of building.

2. Kansas has cold winters and hot summers. The energy efficiency requirements cost more than in more moderate climates. That means additional costs for more insulation or insulation with higher R factors, and more costly windows and doors.

3. Labor is expensive in Kansas, and it also costs more for building supplies. They are either trucked in or shipped by rail. The building time for houses in Kansas is typically between four to six months depending on the weather.

Welcome to the Flint Hills, a great place to call HOME.
